Top Ten Videos - May 27th
Without doubt the funniest video I’ve watched all week. Made as part of series of 26 similar films by Eric Fensler back in 2003 these viral videos are still just as funny as ever. This one stood out for me as being off my chair hilarious.
2. David Blaine’s Street Magic pt2
This one wins out in terms of performance alone. A brilliantly observed parody of Blaine who stares into the camera whenever something magical happens.
3. That Boy Needs Therapy, music video.
I’m getting really sick of Democracy player now and it’s stupid ways. One night it decided to download 50 files from a feed for no reason at all. It’s lost some of the videos I set to keep; deleted files are gone forever rather than sent to trash; it jumps out of full screen mode if it can’t play a file (very often) and it gives me the colour wheel far too much.
And I can’t find the video anywhere online. Maybe I dreamt it.
4. Space Adventure 14 - RCK Chain of Command
It has perhaps the worst production design I’ve seen for stuff like this and an equally uninspiring title but this hit or miss show really hit a home run for me this time round (GOAL!!!!). Perhaps the children who are clowns but don’t know it. I’ve no idea if the clown stuff was appropriated or new but the whole thing fitted together really well and is very funny.
The highest ranking youtube poop this week is again by Pikawil64 who I featured last week. Having watched many of these films now I’m counting myslef lucky that my way in was via one of the best.
A pretty average episode of a quality show by worthy of inclusion in this chart for a second week for this quote alone: "Fuck fashion. Fuck the Fashion industry for perpetuating this need for newness amidst this huge surplus and fuck you for taking away our creativity. " Priceless - and a damn shame the guests and their view don’t match with those of the braindead show hosts.
7. Youtube Poop: The Quest for Gannon’s Dinner
The brilliant Tim Drage (from Spite Your Face) turns up as a bone fide pooper (and before me - the swine) - to prove that once again he’s on the pulse of what is too cool for school. Apart from introducing me to circuit bending he also was the first person to tell me abou the wonders of After Effects. This was many many years ago when AE was on version 4 and I’d just bought my first computer! His poops are amoung the best - natch.
8. Hotel Mario Intro (Nouns replaced with explosions)
Well let’s not forget I’ve been building a YTP website all week so it makes sense that a good few of them oud turn up here.
9. MAMA LUIGI IS A NUCLEAR WEAPON
Perhaps the most aggressive youtube Poop I’ve seen thus far. Luigi exploding is especially effective and somewhat chilling.
And here in the covered ‘vlog-crime’ spot is a rather sweet man with a big beard and one of those hidious headset microphnes. Here’s clearly a little bored and one wonders why he’s posting at all - but then that the problem - if you don’t post then you piss off your auidnce for not being consistant. Stupid!
I’d also recommend you listen to this to further understand the nature of the problem. It’s a brilliantly articulated critique of the quaintness of home brew media such as Dr. Bill here. Another example of the consistently brilliant Fabrications

This week’s top 10 videos
I’ve stepped beyond democracy player this week as the top 2 were found on youtube. If not embeded then the direct media link is included as is website it was sourced from. If you enjoyed any of these then please send you comments to their authors rather than myself.
1. The Five Doctors
This spoof is truly remarkable. This is the final word in fan made media - this is Doctor Who fandom put to good use. Stunningly well crafted this appealed to me not only as a Doctor Who fan but also as someone with an interest in post production and visual effects. This is quite simply better than the real thing.
Part two is just as good if not better.

2. The Dalek Emperor toasts the Universe
It’s not a fan film as such but rather an relentless onslaught. In a way the title says it all whilst saying nothing, much like the film. 10 minutes of appropriated footage from all sorts of places cut together with the grace of a chainsaw berserker - this two other films like it are described by it author as being a Youtube Poop. Some good art going on here as far as I’m concerned.

3. Tollbooth
http://www.clickcaster.com/resource/horhay/tollbooth.mp4
Incredible cctv footage of a car hitting a toll booth at top speed. One forgets that sometimes you don’t need any sort of crew at all to make a compelling piece of media
4. Indy Mogul
I love the amazing things that production designers people can do - and this show is all about making special fx - or in this case a rocket pack. Sadly there’s the hit of ‘community’ building that will no doubt undermine the show at later date when it’ll be more important to ‘get involved’ than merely watch the show. I can smell a business model but I think it’ll be worth keeping an eye on this show.
5. Sauce on Glasses
http://media.revver.com/qt/256492.mov
I find this seemingly fetish inspired vlog post rather shocking - its amazing how simple things like this can challenge a lot more any contrived student films.
I’ve no idea which website this is from.
6. Eclectic News Brief No. 25
http://m.podshow.com/media/241/episodes/61633/eclecticnewsbrief-61633-05-18-2007.mp4
Richard Bluestein’s work is always hit or miss due, I believe, his lack of focus, support and his habit of making too much to ever spend the time to refine his art. Thankfully though this episode has some truly inspired moments and is worth seeing for a number of reasons.
7. Lynchland 15
http://liamlynch.cachefly.net/podcasts/LynchlandEps15.m4v
Far too ‘big and proper’ to be fully appreciated in the same context as the rest of this video content this episode contains too jokes that made me laugh.
8. John Sweeney as seen on News 24
The best thing about this clip is it has been recontextualised twice. A clip from a documentary is shown on the news which is then posted on youtube.
9 Thread Heads: Episode 14
http://media.libsyn.com/media/threadbanger/THR_20070518.m4v
I nice little video podcast show in a tradition podcast mould that serves looks at fashion from the point of view of the kids on the street rather than the big name labels. This episode stood out for its segment of hats made from meat. I also find myself wondering what wrong with the hosts’ faces - they seem so snug it’s like botox.
10. Mac Media Cast
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MacMediaCast/~5/117213190/MMC1ipod.m4v
This belongs alongside last week’s winner Michael Verdi for number 10. I may call this position the ‘Hidden Art Award’ for more info why see this previous entry: http://conradslater.com/blog/the-thankful-return-of-joseph-nilo/

That’s all for now but if you would like me to discuss any of these on here then please let me know - just add a comment.
1 commentMy Top 10 Online Video for May 2007
With all these web movies and vlogs I’ve been watching lately I thought I’d compile a top 10 of this week’s personal favourites. Direct links to media in the title of each entry - links to source (often very different address) at base of entry. 10 at bottom 1 at top - why not go to the bottom of the page and work up.
In the true style of viral videos this looks like it was ripped from a spanish tv. Can it be real? Surely not. Can it be spoof? Again, such attention to detail would be near impossible. It just is what it is and we are all monkeys laugh at ourselves in mirrors.
From Puking Dog
I’ve linked to this one earlier this month but it goes into the chart at number two for working on various levels. Apart being funny and clever it looks cool and is timeless as only the best media is.
Found on http://www.ooze.com/
Perhaps one of the funniest punchlines I’ve seen on web movie.
At 22 minutes far too long to make an effective podcast but this show hits a lot of he right buttons. Really well crafted comedy and some fine performances. I hope they do more short things for my short attention span.
An early Joel Veitch flash animation that I was recently reminded of. Always worth a re-entry into the chart for it’s silliness and simplicity.
This unusual episode of strong bad emails is rather effective for it’s self parody and uber childish humour. Masters of their game.

A remarkable “cops” style spoof. Really amazing hair too. This is hoe Hope is Emo could be like if it was done with intergity. Dark ending though - be warned.

Reposted as part of PJK’s best of season this b/w music video is remonincent of the work of Dennis Potter and demostrates Paul potentail as a romantic actor. Pitched at just the right mood.

9. Rich Pretty Girl Episode 30
I shouldn’t like it but maybe it’s a guilty pleasure. I’ve no idea is the host is real or performing or somewhere in between but she is clearly very talented. The unseen male voice also works brilliantly - I might write about this one at some point.

10. A Conversation About Distrubuted Production
If it’s worth writing about then it’s worth being placed in this months chart. It’s got a snappy title and it’s dircted by the new Stanley Kubrick. Uber geeks at work - what them go.
So there you have it. This weeks most top tips. Next Sunday I may do audio as there have been a few changes lately to my audio habits and also some stand out episodes of regular podcasts.
