MPMI#04: Improv: Interview with Detective Fashion

September 05th, 2006 | Category: MPMI Podcast Episode

In this episode I interview Detective Fashion from the Spainful Films video podcast.

A lot of my work depends of the process of improvisation and this is a great example of that.

This part of the interview concerns Fashion’s past, his need for a father figure an dhow he become host and producer of Spainful Films flagship series. Tough questions which he does his best to wriggle out of but ultimately come across as the same old Fashion that we know and love.

MPMI#02 Research: Canon - A Conversation with Paul Wilson

September 05th, 2006 | Category: MPMI Podcast Episode

In this episode of MPMI, I talk to Paul Wilson from TheWhoCast about canon, chronology and other issues such as the how we form theories based on facts or how we tailor the facts to suit our theories.

Intro Music - 2005 -09 -04 by Cinema Volta from the PMN

Issues raised in this episode:

What is Canon?

How is canon altered when new evidence is unearthed?

Historical evidence and the difference between truth and fact.

The differences between different branches of the Christian church and their varying beliefs.

Doctrine, canon and creed.

Apostolic succession.

Doctor Who and how fandom is divided based on how and when fans became fans.

The Doctor Who spin off novel aren’t canon any more.

How the outside world can contaminate our views, the sacking of Colin Baker alienated a lot of fans.

New Doctor Who has ignored canon - the Doctor - half human? - surely not.

Big Finish audio adventures ignore the canon of the BBC Books.

Comedy aspects of Doctor Who make it tough to be a die hard fan.

But if it’s shown on TV it’s canon - unless the Doctor was lying!

The shroud of Turin: those that believe, ignore the science.

Love and Monsters, theories based on denial. (Surely it’s not that bad)

Paul’s interview with Sean Huxter

Mulholland Drive invites the viewer to be a detective.

Why not do the same detective work on other films - uninvited.

My theory: Mary Poppins was all in George Banks head and none of the events shown actually took place.

Paul believes the radical interpretations of Love and Monster was not caused by it’s comedic style but rather it contradictions to established canon - the Doctor would not let the slab woman live.

Some fans have completely rejected Love and Monsters as not canon.

“Beliefs and facts don’t necessarily coexist very well”
